How to build a Barebone PC : Asus V3-P5G43

Have you ever thought of building a customised pc from scratch, but only to change your mind at the last moment due to the hassle and stress it might cause. Well there is an alternative which is almost as good as building a pc from scratch. Its called building a barebone PC.

Basically a barebone PC is a PC case that has the motherboard mounted, power supply installed and all the cables connected for the various switches & leds. All barebone PCs also have VGA, Sound, Graphics, Lan and other ports built in. So there is very little for you do except to choose your own processor (cpu) and the amount of memory (ddr2 sdram) you require. Once you install these components you will have a fully functional PC. Like with any other pcs, barebone PC come with expansion slots so you can choose your own graphics card if you need something more powerful than the built in one or add additional expansion cards such as a TV card.

For this guide we will build a barebone PC using the following parts:
  1. Asus V3-P5G43 Barebone Case
  2. Intel Core 2 duo E7500 LGA775 Socket 2.93 ghz 3MB cache
  3. Kingston 2GB 800 mhz DDr2 PC2-6400 SDRAM (kit)
  4. Western Digital WD3200AAKS 320GB SATA Hard Drive
  5. Samsung SH-S223 DVD Writer

Step 1 : Prepare the case
The first thing we need to do is to open our case using a phillips screwdriver. Find a suitable place to work from and start unscrewing the right side panel of the case.


Place the case horizontally and gently slide the metal panel off. You need to pull the panel towards your self.


Once the panel is fully opened you will notice that the motherboard is mounted, power supply unit has all the cables attached to the motherboard, the cables for the power switch, reset switch, power LED and hard drive LED are all attached to the motherboard.


If you look more closely at the motherboard you will notice that memory slots does not have any memory installed and the cpu socket has a plastic protector on top. You can also see the 24 pin and 4 pin ATX power cables are attached along with the USB header connectors for the front USB ports and the memory card reader.
